Festina lente means hurry slowly "and combines two divergent concepts, speed and slowness. 

The phrase is attributed to Emperor Augustus by the 

Latin writer Gaio Svetonio Tranquillo, in his text "Vita di Augusto".

It indicates a way of acting without delay, but with caution. 

The motto was associated with the symbol of the turtle with sail by Cosimo I de 'Medici.
